Besides the Jr. level hourly rate and no benefits, another aspect of this to
consider is how much isolation you can handle. At my job, I can work from
home just about anytime I want, but I choose to go into work most days (it
helps that I can walk to work in 35 minutes so I don't have to deal with a
commute). Even though I'm a typical IT introvert, I still like things going
on around me. Plus, there's a lot of collaboration that happens onsite that
doesn't readily happen when you're off-site. Perhaps a remote support DBA
job doesn't involve so much collaboration, but I would argue that it
should. My impression is that the attempt by many American and European
companies to send DBA support offshore has been met with mixed results due
largely to difficulties in communication and collaboration.
