What do you want to edit?
It appears that you haven't typed a SQL statement (at least the first
word should be the first word of a valid SQL-statement) to edit.
Try:
SQL> select * from dual;
SQL> ed
it might work better, then.
Another thing that can help you avoiding questions :
on the AIX-prompt, type
dgs.dbalert199:/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0> oerr sp2 0107
00107,0, "Nothing to save.\n"
// *Cause: Nothing in the SQL buffer when attempting to save the
// content to a file.
// *Action: Enter a SQL command to save.
dgs.dbalert199:/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0>
