Hi,

RMAN has a repository in control file about backup set location.
In case of restoring from SBT_TAPE RMAN will use interface to BUE Oracle agent.
This agent will talk to BUE client which existing on your DB server
and than restore request will be send to BUE server and restoring job
should start.

You can always use client command to initiate restoring process.
