Re: Stupidity with ASM rebalancing

Here is one that annoyed me
1. ASM disk group was running out of space
2. Additional disks were added to disk group
3. Database continues get segment cannot extend (ORA-1652) or unable to
resize file (ORA-1237)
4. Manual rebalance (or automatic) fixes problem.

There is an easy enough work around for this with good storage management
practices but I did not agree with the implementation, in principle, of
not allocating space even when disk space was avaiable until the rebalance
was done.

"Note that having free disk space is not sufficient to ensure that space
can be allocated. There must be free disk space on *ALL* disks in the disk
group since the allocated space is taken evenly from all disks."
