Honestly, if your going to use BIGFILES I'd go 11gR1 instead, particularity if you are using RMAN.

Subject: Re:Question on bigfiles

We're configuring a 10G test database. Version 10.2.0.4 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4. Normally we do exports to backup the data, and there is a backup server that backs up the entire server. Because is our datawarehouse database we're in noarchive log mode.

One of our tablespaces is about 80 GB.

I have a test 10g database already with bigfiles, but whenever I want to look at the tablespaces either on Database Control, or the Enterprise Manager console it takes a while to see the results. This database is on Solaris 10. I'm not sure if performance might be an issue with bigfiles, or if the slow response is related to the OS.

Thank you

Ana

Ana,

many pros/cons can be O.S. related, which is your version for Oracle and O.S.? What is the backup type you use?

As a first caveat, backup may be an issue, some tape drives (not too updated, indeed) may not handle > 2Gb files.
