 Which leaves us back, regarding the initial question 'What's wrong in the
query' with any answer from 'are you sure that your ORACLE_SID is properly
set ?' to 'Are you in the right schema?' or 'define a variable to bind' or
'run queries under SQL*Plus, not directly from the shell'. :-).

Well, "category" is a reserved word (as seen from v$reserved_words) used for
maintaining outlines, but as your test shows (and which I should have done
before sending my reply), this word can be used freely in SQL.
