Starting in 11.2.0.2 you can set a parameter to regulate hugepages usage,
including to ONLY use hugepages. I.E. if hugepages is not available, do not
start up instance.

Taylor,
ASM uses memory anyway so why not give hugepages to it ?
I see at least one benefit - if there will be paging on the system
your ASM's SGA will not be paged out.
