Oracle Internet Directory External Authentication Plug-in

We are thinking about using the OID "External Authentication Plug-in" to use
credentials stored in Active Directory.

Anyone having experience with this external plug-in?
Is it stable, reliable and performant? Does it work out-of-the box?
