Hi Chris!

The utility is trying to update JDK in your $GRID_HOME directory. Unfortunately, it's owned by root and not by the user "grind" (my personal equivalent for "grid"). The solution is to change mode of the $GRID_HOME to 775. That will make it writable to the grid owner and you will be able to patch it.

After fixing the cause of failure Run opatchauto resume

Checking the java binary it lacks execute permissions in the database and grid 
homes and the file has a new timestamp so the error message make sense.

Has anyone else applied the July 19c patch set to a single instance server, 
Oracle Database and Oracle Restart, using the opatchauto command?
