Log switch Not taking place - db hangs

Hello Team
Of late we ran into this problem. For some vague reasons the log switch
does not take place and the system hangs. There are no trace files, no
alert messages; Upon adding a log group the database resumes activity.
This is not free space issue. Any ideas as to why Oracle hangs if it
is not able to copy up with fast log switch? This is in 9i Rel 2
(9.2.0.1). Has anyone encountered this problem? Is this a bug? If so
what is the Bug No?
