One suggestion I didn't see was to use vncserver.

Simple to use, and you can then just use vncviewer from your desktop.

eg:

login as oracle
# set vnc password
vncpasswd

# run vncserver on port 10

vncserver :10

Just download RealVNC to your desktop, connect to <your server>:10
and supply the password.
