Could well be something simple.....
telnet in to the unix server....type tty and get the tty port of your
connection
type who -u and see what IP address your telnet session is
export DISPLAY=3Dthatip:0.0
NOT the IP you get running ipconfig on your PC...
I do this quite regularly and it works even though my home pC is behind
a router giving me a 192.168.xxx.xxx address
The unix servers are showing 165.15.xxx.xxx and that is what I export
Also use ssh IF the UNIX server is setup with ssh
Ssh is a little easier if your client is setup properly and I use putty
a 'freeware' ssh client...works great also

if you are being a router and the unix box isnt, then it doent matter
what os it is or anything, the unix box just cant see your pc.
Use an ssh tunnel with X11 forwarding enables, all x traffic will then
go through your tunnel to you pc. All you need is an x server on you
pc (cygwin, xwin, exceed etc.)
