Many moons ago, we saw this problem at GridApp with Linux NFS and Oracle -
never bothered to really troubleshoot it, aside from demonstrating that it
worked fine with our Netapp boxen. Back to netapp it was - so much for our
grand vision of cheap Linux NAS for our dev lab.

On the flip side, on a customer site, we once were stuck doing a PoC with a Mac
OS X server as the NAS storage, and it worked just fine. So, there are
free/cheap *nix variants that work with Oracle.

Thanks,
Matt

Has anyone successfully mounted an oracle database using freenas?

I have attempted to create a new database and clone one using a control file to
a directory on an NFS mounted FreeNAS drive and it just hangs. It also causes
the FreeNAS server to stop responding to all requests. I tested IO using
"Bonnie" (search google) and everything works great. I can copy files to the it
fine, but something happens when I try to mount a database using Oracle. I
suspect some sort of configuration issue but it would be good to hear from
someone who has at least opened a database on FreeNAS.
