The superblock corruption is normally caused by corrupt Magic number.
Sometimes un-availability of free blocks may also cause this. This could
also be happended if the soft partition is created on wrong disk
slice.Anyway, one can always try to mount the disk with secondary
superblock. Solaris and many other Unix flavors have got this flaw.
