Good morning. I hope you are all having a lovely day. Recently I was contacted by a college student doing a research paper on electronic imaging, electronic records, and the various ways of viewing and storing images in ophthalmology. She would like to speak with more individuals with have knowledge of these things. Her questions were not very technical. Any of you who do imaging and have seen a transition of any of the systems would likely be able to satisfy most of what she would like to glean from this endeavor. My experience with her was very pleasant. She is polite, respectful, and appreciative. The conversation I had with her lasted just less than an hour but I am a bit verbose. If any of you are interested in speaking with her I am providing her contact information below wrapped in a synopsis she put together for you. If you have any questions please let me know. Otherwise feel free to contact her directly. Thank you and have a delightful day. Jud LeRoy D. I am doing an informal research project this summer on image data management in Ophthalmology. I am understanding how various practices and institutions currently review, store, and share images and trying to gather thoughts on technology trends particular to Ophthalmology: image management systems and EMRs, convenience of licensed software versus subscription web-based access, cloud and image management systems, medical information exchange platforms, image management technology that might be more developed in Radiology but not Ophthalmology yet but would be useful. Please let me know if you have any insight on any of these topics or are open to discuss in a brief interview. My name is Anna, my email is annang@xxxxxxxxx and I will be continuing this through the end of August. Thank you for your time. Questions: feel free to answer any of the following or parts of the following. Thank you! 1. Review Systems: What viewing system or image management system are you using? Is it integrated into an EMR, and if so which EMR? What are your thoughts on your image management system compared to others? What do you think of image management systems integrated into EMR versus those that are standalone? How do you evaluate an image management system- what are your most important criteria you consider? 2. Image Exchange: How do you exchange images with other health systems and providers (e.g. prints, CDs, email, electronically, etc.)? What do you think of this method, how would you prefer it be done? How often do you have to exchange images on average? What do you think about the usefulness of an image exchange platform for Ophthalmology (some platforms exist for Radiology currently) to exchange images electronically and securely with other providers, referrals centers, and health systems to coordinate patient care/reduce redundant imaging? Would this be more convenient than how you currently exchange, do you think your institution would exchange more, or are there other barriers (e.g. each center would still prefer to do their own imaging)?
