Mr. Wilkie does not think that a $499 computer from Apple, which still requires a display, keyboard, mouse and external speakers is much to get excited about. Here's what David Pogue wites about this in today's NY Times... http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/13/technology/circuits/13stat.html?th Now, even in the Dell world, $500 doesn't buy a complete computer system. The typical bargain-basement box lacks speakers, a networking card, dedicated graphics memory, a modem, a FireWire input for a camcorder and virus protection. Its drive can only play CD's, not burn them. And aesthetically, well, let's just say that the $500 PC generally makes you happier when it's under the desk, not on it. Regards Craig P.S. Pogue also added this comment: "Freaky that you can now buy a Mac for less money than a top-of-the-line iPod, isn't it?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
