To all; The ATSC has established PC-7, which is a working group that has just stared up to investigate the issues involved in using PMCP (ATSC A/76, the Programming Metadata Communications Protocol) to communicate the information necessary to generate PSIP. As many of you know, there are a variety of devices within a television station (traffic, automation, news and program management) and outside (listing services, networks) that provide this data. The group is chaired by Chris Lennon of Harris, and most of the companies that provide PMCP-compliant PSIP generators are also involved, along with vendors of automation, traffic and program management systems, at least one national television network, and a representative of at least one major station group. Much useful information will be learned in this group. Generally, the group meets at 12 noon every other Friday. Due to a conflict with the SMPTE BXF group (many of us vendors are members of both groups), the next PC-7 meeting will be at 12 noon on October 6. The following meeting will be on October 17. Much of this useful information and experience will be confined to group members, since the group is subject to the ATSC's non-disclosure policy. If you or your company or station are interested in participating, you don't need to be an ATSC member to join, and there is no charge for admission or involvement, aside from long-distance charges to join our fortnightly teleconferences. To join, send an email message to the ATSC's Jerry Whitaker. If you don't know his email address, just send a message to me at jwillkie@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or JohnWillkie@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, and I'll relay your request on to Jerry. John Willkie EtherGuide Systems
