Mark's point is well made. The deterministic trellis reset (DTR) tool in the
A-VSB kit is what is needed to run an SFN in 8VSB. This tool brings the
trellis coding into proper sync in all the transmitters. Samsung and Rohde &
Schwarz supported the investigation, but were not mentioned in the article.
ION will be presenting a paper on the SFN work at the Oct 31-Nov 2 Broadcast
Symposium.

Actually, not sure there is any loss of efficiency due to the use of A-VSB.
Being that there are a number of tools, if one just uses the DTR (Deterministic
Trellis Rest) with the other enablers for SFN (which are about synchronization,
no addition bits that I know of), where is the penalty? What are the
compatibility issues?
