Gerry Kaufhold here from In-Stat/MDR
I've been on DirecTV since about 1997,
and have often wanted to "tune in" the local
news feeds from cities where I have siblings:
Miami, Florida
Pittsburgh, PA
Dayton, Ohio
Columbus, Ohio
Des Moines, Iowa
Orlando/Jacksonville, Florida
Austin, Texas
Dallas, Texas
Houston, Texas
my interenst level is that I would
pay-per-view to get access to these
local news feeds, which are already on the "bird"
but the local-into-local agreements prohibit
DirecTV from letting me see the news from these
other cities - even if I want to pay for it.
So, my opinion agrees with Albert and
Craig - put it all out there and let
the market decide -
if a regional feed of the network programming is
all the the market wants, so be it.
But - if the market wants to watch
a wide variety of local news channels as
pay-per-view, those cities with good quality
news could find new markets and revenues.

Good question. Which is why national caps don't make any sense.
What's good for DBS should also be good for cable and OTA. Let
the market decide how much local content, rather than politicians.
