I suppose, equating 8-VSB with 64-QAM, that would not be a bad analogy. But I still think that more can be done with 8T-VSB receivers wrt dynamic training, which would lead to decent mobile reception. The push to DVB-T2 is primarily for greater spectral efficiency for HD programming, and the priority is therefore to fixed receivers. As also stated in those slides from the RAI Research guys.
