This is a call for presentation proposals for the 2008 Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat, which will be held February 20-22 (with probable pre-retreat seminars on the 19th) at Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, Rancho Mirage (Palm Springs-area), California. Presentation proposals may be on any technical topic relating to audio, film, television, and video technology, e.g., acquisition, asset management, bit-rate reduction, broadcasting, cable-TV, color gamut, consumer electronics, content protection, cost reduction, digital cinema, display, distribution, editing, fiber optics, filtering, forensic analysis, 4K, frame-rate conversion, HDMI, interconnection, interlace, IPTV, lenses, lighting, lip-sync, microphones, mobile TV, modeling, motion compensation, networking, perception, processing, projection, quality, satellites, slow-motion, stereoscopy, storage, surround sound, testing, upconversion, and wireless systems. Those are just examples; other related topics are acceptable, too.

Proposals need not be formal. They may be as short or as long as is considered necessary to convey the idea being proposed. Slots in the main program are nominally 30 minutes long, including setup and Q&A, but longer (especially for panels) and shorter slots may be requested. Selections for the main program will be made based, in part, on themes that seem to come up from proposals submitted, so the "best" proposals will not necessarily be accepted.

There are also breakfast roundtable allocations available on the mornings of the 21st and 22nd. These may be on ANY topic and are accepted automatically on a first-come, first-served basis until there are no more tables available. For each breakfast-roundtable proposal, simply submit a short title of the topic, moderator name, and date. Topics and moderators may be changed up to the last minute, but once a roundtable slot is accepted, the table MUST be covered.

Presenters in the main program (speakers, moderators, and panelists) get a substantial discount on admission to the whole event (there is no charge for a presenter to attend just the session at which the presentation is made). There is no discount for breakfast-roundtable moderators (unless they are also main-program presenters). There is also free space available to registered attendees for demonstrations of new technology.

Proposals for presentations at the main program and for breakfast roundtables should be sent to me, Mark Schubin, at tvmark@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx I will send an acknowledgment of all e-mails received; if you do not receive the acknowledgment, I did not see the e-mail (see below if you use the rogers.com domain). Proposals for demo space should be sent to John Luff <john.luff@xxxxxxxxxxx>. Demo space is also awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified applicants until it runs out.
FAQs about the event may be found here:

Information on the demo space may be found here:
http://www.hpaonline.com/mc/page.do?sitePageId=50949&orgId=hopa

The main program, breakfast roundtables, and demo space are not mutually exclusive; one may present at one of those, two, or all three.

Please submit proposals no later than October 31. Proposals for presentations should be submitted by the proposed presenter, not a public-relations company.

Note to those using the rogers.com domain: I have had problems receiving messages from that domain. If you cannot use a different domain, please send you proposal to Eileen Kramer <ekramer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> with instructions to forward it to me.

Thanks!

TTFN,
Mark
