Wow! Absolutely NOTHING could be better than broadcasters and/or TV networks becoming disenchanted with MVPDs. Perhaps they'll figure out why Internet distribution, along with umwalled OTA distribution, is more to their advantage.

You still don't get it.

This is all theater designed to make the regulators think that there is no collusion between the distributors and the content producers.

Broadcasters LOVE the MVPDs because of the second revenue stream they collect from subscribers. They no longer need to depend on ads to pay for the content - with the second revenue stream they can keep riding the ship down until the advertisers say enough.

If broadcasters were really serious about maximizing the effectiveness of their ads they would:

1. Reduce the number of ads significantly - take them back to the levels during the golden age of TV when they only had one revenue stream. (i.e. no more than 6 minutes per 1/2 hour of programming.

2. Embrace new technologies that allow for the targeting of ads to consumers - something that is now commonplace with web advertising. This would allow broadcasters to charge more for less intrusion;

3. Allow MVPDs to offer rebroadcasts of their programs WITHOUT ADS for a nominal fee - no more than 25 cents.

Anyway, an optimistic turn of events, IMO. A good balance to the greedy notion requiring an MVPD subscription to view online content!! For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Ain't classical physics great?

Except that the laws of physics are suspended in Washington - The politicians continue to prop up the election channel...

Craig
