A visit to a mass-market store like Target shows why. The flat panel =
TVs, while still more expensive than old CRTs (a lot more expensive when =
you see how prices of largish CRTs have fallen) are all over the =
shelves. They have replaced most of the shelf space that used to be =
dedicated to CRTs even late last year. The big bulky CRTs are looking =
very pass=E9 indeed.

Still, a mere $110 or so buys a 27" old style CRT. It still costs more =
like $800+ to buy an "equivalent" LCD.

When you consider the price difference and the abysmally clueless sales =
people, I don't think this is all that surprising. They might be =
perfectly happy to unload old merchandise, if the buyer doesn't =
hesitate.
