For the "Immigrant Experience" I highly recommend Francisco Jimenez, Chicano author, and his autobiographical books Cajas de Carton, Senderos Fronterizos and Mas Alla de Mi - Each of the chapters in his books reads more like a short story and recount his youth leaving Mexico to come work the fields in California with his family - JoAnna Coleman Spanish Teacher Wilson High School 503-916-5280 ext. 75231 joannac@xxxxxxx http://profecoleman.wordpress.com/ ________________________________ From: ola-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <ola-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> on behalf of Tess Siemer <tess.siemer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, January 19, 2014 4:28 PM To: ola@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ola] Good Literature Hi all, I'm transitioning teaching positions next school year and teaching an equivalent of Spanish 3/4 integrated into an internationally themed block with English, social science, technology, and leadership. We'll be doing thematic units like "The Immigrant Experience" and "My-Cronimics", tying the economics of their lives to micro lending and Kiva. I'm looking for literature recommendations appropriate for 11-12 graders in an internationally themed course. Unit suggestions also welcome! Also looking for lower elementary level book recommendations around these topics in Spanish (high interest, low level). Thanks everyone! Tess sent from my sorta-smart phone
