Good morning,

I am working on a grading rubric which my principal is requiring in order to
assess Spanish 1 students with their abilities. Once this one makes sense and
passes inspection, I will do the Spanish 2 Rubric. Since we are Standards and
Proficiency based, I am using both the ACTFL guidelines and the Oregon State
Standards as well as Arnold's email on evaluating comprehensibility of student
output. I am putting this out for all, and not just Arnold because I know there
are others out there trying to figure out how to grade students on this new
MEPNI model and can benefit from output by others already using the model.

I found a rubric out from another school district to use as a guideline; it was
much more basic and wasn't using all ACTFL language though it was based on the
ACTFL guidelines. I am hoping that I am at least on the right track for the
changes and additions I have made to better assess where students are moving
and to help me look for evidence of what they can do with their performance. At
the moment, this is all I have and is better than nothing, but I am truly
looking forward to input from the experts.

Have a wonderful day,

Jody Soberon

P.S. In case there is anyone out there not familiar with MEPNI:

Mastery
Exceeds
Proficiency
Not Proficient
Insufficient evidence

Close to ABCDF, except N and I receive no credit and there are no other
sublevel grades + or -.
