Floyd, I took a look in Robert Michael Pyle’s Butterflies of Cascadia and quickly (!) stumbled upon p. 367, where I see an ELEGANT DAY MOTH which fits well with your photo. Bob indicates that moth books are rare. The insect was as large as a large butterfly, but I cannot find a match for it in my Kaufman butterfly field guide, so I assume it is a moth, and an unusually colorful one. I do not recall ever seeing a Robin selecting such an insect as a food item. If someone would like to take a look at the photo, and can identify the moth (if that's what it is), I would be pleased to learn its name.
