The past few days of sunny weather have brought some spring birds to my yard, the latest (earliest) being House Wren this morning, 10 days ahead of last year. Today also brought a Hermit Thrush. Yesterday morning a male Brown-headed Cowbird showed up on the feeding platform, where the Brewer’s and Red-winged Blackbirds showed it no respect. Evening Grosbeaks are now here daily, the first 3 showing up on 4/3. The difference is how few I see, but that may change. White-crowned Sparrows started singing on the 4/7, Violet-green Swallows first cruised the nest boxes on 4/8, and Orange-crowned Warblers started calling that day. There is more activity overall, with woodpeckers drumming and earlier arrivals regular at the feeders, and the Juncos down in number to those that breed here. Spring!
