That is what they are forecasting for Coos Bay- temps close to 80 and winds up
to 25mph out of the NE.  If I lived near Cascade Head I would be up there...

Tim

I remember that day well!  The wind was blowing from the east at something like
30mph in Newport.  Shawn Stephensen and I went out to Yaquina Head and it was
hot standing on the viewing deck.  Wilson's and orange-crowned warblers were
struggling in from the west and dropping in the shrubs as soon as the reached
land.  We haven't had a day like that in the spring since.  I believe it was
2008 or perhaps 2009 sometime around this week in May.

I'm sure someone will chime in with the correct date!

Sounds like Coos Bay will be experiencing some offshore flow on Friday night
and Saturday and pretty warm temps, in the 70's and perhaps up to 80.  As I
remember a few years back we had a big passerine fallout on the beach, and many
bird ending up dying as the winds pushed them offshore to the breaking point. I
remember finding species like chat and Lazuli Buntings practically on the
beach.  It seems like it was around this time of year and we had a big offshore
wind event and hot temps- can anybody remember the exact conditions of that
fallout?  I think Phil P had thousands of passerines at Cascade Head that day
and in subsequent days many dead birds were found in the wrack line on the
beach.   Oh, offshore flow is NOT good for observing the shorebird spectacle I
would think.
