Hi Larry & all, Unfortunately the Diamond Hill Rd. conservation property is no longer hosting significant numbers of Streaked Horned Larks, although it provided some ephemeral habitat during the initial period of disturbance when the wetlands had just been scraped out. The decline of HOLAs on this property was starting to become apparent already a few years ago, when numbers were down to just a couple of pairs, mainly using the roadsides and the gravel access road. The decline of HOLAs here apparently missed the attention of the folks who put together the Streaked Horned Lark Endangered Species Act listing and Critical Habitat Designation (CHD) in October 2012, as they included this as one of the critical sites. However, in the end this site was removed from the CHD. The main reason cited was basically "other management objectives," but realistically, practically all of the larks had already left the site. So it really didn't make sense to list this as Critical Habitat. Hopefully there are still some Horned Larks to be found a little closer to Eugene, out in the Washburne Lane area. I haven't been out there yet this year but last year there were a couple of pairs in that area.
