Birders- This morning (10/16, 8 AM), while birding near the corner of Oak & B Ave, in SW La Grande, I heard the faint, but distinctive call of a BLUE JAY. In combination of not seeing the bird, and not being able to completely rule out an Audubon Bird Clock, I passed on it. Later at work (10:36 AM), Susan Daughtery, who lives in the same neighborhood, called to inform me that she just had a BLUE JAY pass through her yard. We get Blue Jays annually in Union County, but they seem to be harder to get in La Grande and are more common on the South (Union) and East (Cove) ends of the Grande Ronde Valley. Snow blanketed the highest peaks of the Eagle Caps the night before last ... Christmas Bird Counts are just around the corner!
