Sad indeed that Ochocco Ranger station is gone. There used to be residences
even. Anyone read Birds of Oregon, A General Reference? It's illustrator (Elva
Paulsen) lived there and I remember celebrating New Year's Eve of 75 there. No
fireworks to obscure owl calls at 12:01 for the new year list.
The disappearance of Veerys is as puzzling as it is melancholy. Has the
habitat changed significantly? Maybe the problem is on their wintering ground.
