Hello All,

The ABA has once again come up with a real dilly. This agues body has decided
that all single mega rare birds will not and cannot be counted on a life list.
This is due to basic statistics. It has been explained in the ornithological
journal " Auked Vol.66: p 1123-1136" that mega rare species that are way
outside of their general distribution or range will be dropped as they are
outside of the upper and lower fence and therefore of no biological value.
"Only biologically significant individuals and groups may be counted on a life
list. Dr. Edward R. Zelmermust is adamant about this change at ABA as he states
" All bird species considered for the life list must be of biological value or
within the upper and lower fence of a species population". So that Little
Bunting, Spotted Redshank, Rufus necked Stint and Wood Sandpiper are way
outside of their populations random fence and therefore not countable within
the State of Oregon. Sorry about that situation and maybe someday the ABA will
not be so confining and strict.
