OBOL; This morning did a walk around the loop at Oak Island, on Sauvie Island. On Sturgeon Lake I saw 2 SABINE'S GULLS actively feeding from the water surface. Further along the loop, an immature SWAINSON'S HAWK soared overhead, mobbed by Barn Swallows. It was flying southward. There were several Red-tailed Hawks, and many Turkey Vultures also soaring southward, seemingly migrating.. Now it felt unreal to have seen all these rare birds on one walk, when I was shocked to see a northbound LEWIS'S WOODPECKER flying over the oaks. The bird did not appear to be staying on Oak Island, its flight height looked like it was moving further north. Other highllights: FOS 2 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW some FOX SPARROWS many SANDHILL CRANES many GREATER YELLOWLEGS many AMERICAN PIPITS - walking on mudflats of Sturgeon Lake many WESTERN SCRUB-JAYS - also seemingly moving through the area, and acorn gathering Good Birding Steve Nord Beaverton, OR
