Hi all:

A field trip at Ankeny NWR almost always offers surprises. Today's field
trip was no exception. Easily the most notable surprise was a *CHIPPING
SPARROW*, seen on the trail on our return leg of the loop around Willow
Marsh. Willow Marsh is adjacent to the Sidney Ditch, on the far side of
Eagle Marsh.

Other notables were:

   - FOY American Bittern, seen on edge of Willow Marsh
   - FOY Sora, heard on Willow Marsh
   - FOY Wood Duck (a pair along side Willow Marsh)
   - A large flock of Rock Pigeons flying over Sidney Ditch (seemed a bit
   out of place)
   - A dramatic increase in numbers of Common Yellowthroat (36) and
Orange-crowned Warblers (11) in the past week or so.
   - A Snow Goose, hanging out with around 2,000 Cackling Geese on the
large field near the Willow Tree Parking Lot on Wintel Rd
   - Cliff Swallows are building nests in the rafters of the shelter at
   Eagle Marsh parking lot.

A complete list of today's birds follows.
