As a resident of West Hayden Island I can second the sketchiness of many of
the folks who want a river front home in the summer and to the police and
security patrols. Public access is via the beach up to the high water mark.
So, you could walk to the west end on the beach this time of year. If you
could find a secure place to park and pass the "sketchy" ones (most of them
are harmless). I would say the best way to access the west end is by kayak
or canoe but there isn't a boat launch nearby. The OSPREY in the shopping
center parking lot were successful with one or two chicks fledged.
