...... from the Latin "pileum" — referring specifically to its red crest — it 
would be pie-le-um and thus pie-le-ay-ted.  

Colloquially pronounced pill-e-ay-ted, for no good reason.  Some references say 
both pronunciations are correct.  Everybody gets a gold star.  I suppose it's 
like toe-may-toe and toe-mah-toe ........ go with the flow .........
