Hi -
Big goose migration today. That is, big migration of small geese. I saw several
flocks of Cackling Geese. Photos I took of 2 flocks howed lots of white
collars, indicating they were Aleutian Cacklers. One flock of Aleutians was
accompanied by a subgoup of about 15 birds that appeared to be minima, "true"
Cackling Geese. I saw several other flocks that could not be separated. Total
was about 600 birds. Later in the day a flock came over my house ob birds that
I think were one of the smaller forms of Canada Goose - Lessers maybe? They did
not sound at all like the local Honkers, but not like the Cacklers either.
Underparts seemed fairly dark, but light conditions were poor. Necks were long
for Cacklers, and wingbeats were slower,
