It isn't that Western and Horned Grebes are that exciting, it is just that,
like beef - it's what's for dinner. They are what's around now - uncommon to
very uncommon the rest of the year, but now are passing through the area.
I saw another WESTERN GREBE, HORNED GREBE on Spinnaker Pond this morning to add
to the 4, 3 I saw yesterday on a few other SE Salem deep ponds...Then about 20
WESTERN GREBES, 10 HORNED GREBES on Detroit Lake, where the water level is as
low as I've seen it. A COMMON LOON was near Piety Island, and thoughtfully
swam over to the Linn County side for my Linn Co year list. Thanks, man
I found no Chanterelles but I gave up easily as my back was tiring. I'll go
back and get some the next nice day we have.
If anyone wants to see RED CROSSBILLS up close, walk out 50 yards or so onto
the Detroit Dam, they use the downstream side of the dam for their own reasons,
and if you stand still they will land where you could reach out and touch them.
