I hope the moderators will indulge me in this not-quite-bird-news from the
Malheur Field Station. The Great Basin Society today issued the following
announcement in their newsletter:
“* A Station Manager has been hired! Rose Garacci began work at MFS on Nov 1
for several months of transition with Duncan and Lyla. Rose comes to us from
Grant County and is settling in at West House. We are excited to have her on
board!
* The hiring of a Station Manager is the first step toward a “new model” of
Station operation in which education and naturalist services will be contracted
rather than provided by MFS staff.
*Be watching your mailbox in the next few weeks for the Annual Appeal letter.
This is our largest fundraiser and your ongoing support is critical for the
operation of Malheur Field Station. Keep in mind that MFS is rather unique in
that it is not supported by agencies, institutions or a “Sugar Daddy”. Our
operating expenses are obtained from user fees and donations. “
