I dodged rainwalls and a major hailstorm this morning around Florence and
attempted to do a seawatch. I got a nice dry sunny window about 9:00 but even
at a lower tide the swells and surf were a big problem at the south jetty. The
northerly sites were in the clouds until about 11:00. There was almost no wind,
maybe 10 from the south shifting to the SW and even briefly the east in
afternoon.
Highlights 3 Red Phalaropes. That’s about it. Very little loon action. No tubes.
Onshore highlights included a bonaparte’s gull at the crab dock flats, two RS
hawks at Baker Beach and another along s jetty road. The big inflow of Myrtles
and robins is finally underway.
I was within a block of where the Tropical K was seen. Oh well.
Huge flow of Cal Gulls all day at all sites.
