Greetings OBOLers,
Today, Jim Mott, Shel Neal and I birded the Lane Coast from Heceta Head to Baker Marsh.

Highlights include terrific views of an AMERICAN DIPPER feeding in the shallows of Cape Creek, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, lots of RED CROSSBILLS, a drumming DOWNY WOODPECKER.

A single SURFBIRD was "frozen" on the rocks below five BROWN PELICANS at Heceta Head, three BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, dozens of PIGEON GUILLEMOTS, numerous RHINOCEROUS AUKLETS, and breeding plumaged BRANT'S CORMORANTS near Sea Lion Caves. It was cool to be above soaring TURKEY VULTURES instead of below them.

Baker Marsh produced at least five VIRGINIA RAILS, singing MARSH WRENS, BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES, a female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD pulling apart nesting material from a cattail, and the resident OSPREY working on it's nest.

The volunteers for Whale Watching were out and there were Gray Whales sighted heading north.

A great day to be outside!

good birding!
