I joined Bonnie Deneke, Sue Carr and 17 other birders from the Portland Audubon
Magpies group Thursday morning for a pleasant morning of birding the preserve,
beginning in fog and ending in sunshine. Below is a list of species observed:

Cackling Geese
Mallard-Shoveler (H)
Long-billed Dowitcher
Greater Yellowlegs
Killdeer
Wilson's Snipe
Great Egret
Cooper's Hawk
American Kestrel
Red-tailed Hawk
American Crow
Western Scrub-Jay
Steller's Jay
Anna's Hummingbird
Kingfisher
Hairy Woodpecker
Black-capped Chickadee
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Golden-crowned Kinglet
White-breasted Nuthatch
Bushtits
American Robin
Hermit Thrush
Cedar Waxwing
American Goldfinch
Lesser Goldfinch
Pacific Wren
Bewick's Wren
European Starling
American Pipit
Spotted Towhee
Song Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow (I)
Golden-crown Sparrow
Savannah Sparrow
Common Yellowthroat
Western Tanager
And one of the first rough-skinned newts of the season on its overland
walk-about.
