In addition to the birds reported by Judy, it turns out that an adult Ross' Gull was also seen on the pelagic trip, about 50 miles off Tillamook County. The Ross' Gull was not close to the ship, but the blow up of the pixels of the photographs taken by Owen Schmidt and Tom Crabtree are distinctive. Many (probably all) saw the gull, but after someone had called out Sabine's Gull, which was quickly dismissed when it became apparent that the upper wings were plain pale gray, and it was assumed to be an Arctic Tern that somehow looked a little off. (I only got my binoculars on the rather distant gull, and I do't know that anyone who was not photographing it really got a good look at it. The guys who were photographing it of course couldn't study the field marks when taking photos even and it been closer.) Fortunately the photos show the bird better than many or any of us saw the bird. I am sure Owen and Tom will make photos available soon on OBOL. Roos' Gull was not something that any of us who I have talked with expected to see on a pelagic trip.
