I spent an hour this afternoon walking west on Royal past the gate. Of note
were 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS near the gate, a LAPLAND LONGSPUR about ½
mile west of the gate and a couple flyover AMERICAN PIPITS. Shorebirds were
scarce north of Royal with a few scattered Greater Yellowlegs and Killdeer.
A roost of apx. 500 shorebirds was well west of the tower. Most were
Dowitchers and about 25 Black-bellied Plover. There could easily have been
other species in the flock. The WHITE-TAILED KITE continues to hang out
north of Royal.
