Hello All,
Barry McKenzie, Dan Heyerly and I enjoyed birding the Fisher Unit south of
Royal Ave. this morning. The new water being pumped into the center pond (east
side of the Royal viewing platform dike) is creating great habitat and has
attracted some birds including 20 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS!! Other highlights were:
Hooded Merganser - 46! Female / Immatures
Semipalmated Plover - 15
Killdeer - 8
Baird's Sandpiper - 24!
Least Sandpiper - 12
Pectoral Sandpiper - 6
Western Sandpiper - 30
Short-billed Dowitcher - 2 juv.
Long-billed Dowitcher - 25
Wilson's Snipe - 4
Red-necked Phalarope - 5
Solitary Sandpiper - 1 calling flyover Royal platform
Greater Yellowlegs - 2, conspicuous reduced numbers
Northern Rough-winged Swallow - 1 with Barn Swallows
Purple Martin - 2 heard only
Good Birding,
