Well Gold Beach and vicinity was loaded with Elegant Terns again. Hard to say if birds are still moving north or if the increased numbers include birds that have headed back south from Coos and points northward? Here is what I counted in the early PM under clear skies with winds blowing a steady 30mph: 65- gravel bar in the river near the mouth 25- flying inside the harbor area 100+ flying around the mouth of the jetty 250- sitting on the end of the north jetty (it was very windy and they were on the south side at the end of the jetty) 250- just south of the Ophir rest stop (a few miles north of Gold Beach), some birds on beach but most flying around close to shore fishing 50- at and near the mouth of Euchre Creek (a few miles north of Ophir) Total- about 740 birds It terned out to be a nice day, temps around 70 and plenty of wind to keep things cool, ENJOY!
