After Tim R. left Fossil Point the COEI continued to preen on the rock as the tide rose to cover the rock. Then the eider moved up-channel, around the point. At 1 PM the eider had moved farther off shore but was easily seen in a flock of scoters, due to its obviously larger size, rich brown head, and extensive white on breast & back. When I left the pump station in Empire (Coos Bay) a few minutes after 1 PM the bird was moving into the mid-channel and approaching the red Marker # 10. ~Barbara on Coos Bay
