This evening while visiting my mom in Umpqua I noticed a male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD on a post next to her garden. It fed with about 10 Rufous Hummers at her feeders. Photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/matthewghunter/sets/72157644332654036/ BTW, if you look at the 3rd and 2nd to last photos in the set above (the latter with the bird's tongue sticking out), you see a paler lower mandible in the 2nd to last photo, but not in the 3rd to last photo. Apparently the lower mandible is normally recessed up inside the upper mandible, and mostly not visible most of the time??? I guess I hadn't thought about how that worked...Interesting....
