They are certaily dowitchers. And most of the year at Ankeny they would be
Long-billed. Did you hear anything? L-b make sharp single "pik" calls in quick
succession. We are about to enter that brief window of spring migration when
Short-billed Dowitchers pass through Oregon. They look very much like L-b but
sound quite different "tu-tu-tu". Visual differences between the two are much
smaller. Beak length is irrelevant in the field and l'm not sure how useful it
