The focus of the Precinct 7 CHILDSAFE Program is to promote safe handling and proper storage of handguns, particularly in homes where children and(or) teens live. Children are naturally curious, especially when it comes to firearms. Injuries from accidental shootings are the second leading cause of death for children or teenagers in the United States. Constable May Walker urges, "Residents with firearms in their homes must take common sense steps to avoid accidental shootings by storing weapons locked and unloaded with ammunition secured in a separate place."
